W. Patrick McPhilamy, III

W. Patrick McPhilamy, III is an attorney, mediator and chartered arbitrator with almost 35 years of practice, including more than 25 years as Principal Attorney of the Law Office of W. Patrick McPhilamy, III in the Greater Los Angeles area. Licensed before all courts in California and a member of the State Bar for almost 35 years, he has tried, arbitrated and mediated numerous matters. Through McPhilamy-ADR he handles civil, commercial, corporate and intellectual property disputes, and describes himself as primarily a facilitative mediator who recognises that more than one route leads to settlement.

He holds a Master of Law from the University of Cambridge, a Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management from Virginia Commonwealth University. His international legal training includes a Diploma from the Institute on International and Comparative Law in London (held at the University of London) through the University of San Diego School of Law, and a summer of law study at the University of Oxford through Santa Clara School of Law. He has received mediation and negotiation training from Harvard Law School, Harvard Business School and the Harvard Kennedy School, as well as from Pepperdine University.

His dispute resolution credentials include FPD and MCIArb status, accreditation as a mediator, and Senior Fellow and Fellow standing with several international ADR centres. He is the Resident Representative of California for ADR ODR International, mediates with the California courts, and has served as a judge and expert assessor for mediation, arbitration, negotiation and trial competitions in the U.S. and abroad. He also has substantial experience serving on and advising the boards of directors of for-profit and non-profit organisations.

Patrick is fluent in Italian, has studied Italian and French in Italy and France, and has elementary proficiency in Mandarin Chinese. For several years he has been a member of the ONE Campaign, an international organisation working to eliminate extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa, and has taken part in its campaigns, including the push for passage of the U.S. Electrify Africa Act of 2015.
