Nesar Ahmad (representing the Institute of Company Secretaries of India) was the member of International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN) and Country Correspondent based in India. ICGN is a London based international think tank in developing Corporate Governance framework in collaboration with Governments across the world.

Arbitration & Mediation

He also served as an Arbitrator for National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange during the period 2012-2017. He was also appointed as the Mediator & Conciliator for Delhi, Bengaluru and Chandigarh by the Government of India for the year 2017-18.

He was also the President of Corporate Secretaries International Association (CSIA), Geneva (Switzerland) and was the member of Council of CSIA till 2014. He was the Chairman of WTO Working Group constituted by CSIA.

He was appointed as member secretary/convener of the Committee constituted by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) under the Chairmanship of Mr. Adi Godrej to formulate a Policy Document on ‘National Corporate Governance Policy’.

International Leadership

In the year 2012, he was honoured with the Distinguished Fellowship of the Institute of Directors (IOD). He has been associated with social and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and at present is the member of Advisory Board of Smile Foundation, a top-ten NGO in India for the last 15 years.

He has been associated with the Institute of Directors (IOD), an NGO promoting governance and sustainability besides conducting master-class for Directors in various capacities such as advisor, jury member of Golden Peacock Awards for Corporate Leadership, Institutional Excellence, Corporate Governance, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and Risk Management headed by former Chief Justice of India (Mr. M. N. Venkatachaliah) and co-chaired by Mr. Justice Arijit Pasayat, a retired Supreme Court judge and Vice-Chairman of SIT on Black Money constituted by the Supreme Court of India.

He has also served as a member on the Board of School of Management Studies and as a member of Committee to review the management programme, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and was nominated for three years term as Member of the Faculty of Commerce and Business, University of Delhi, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

He was the Chairman of capacity development by the working group constituted by IICA-GIZ Business Responsibility Initiative. He was a member of Academic Council and Editorial Advisory Board of Institute of Management Studies (IMS) Ghaziabad, a NACC ‘A’ Grade accredited management institute.

He has been widely travelling in both domestic and international jurisdictions and has represented ICSI and CSIA before ‘Committee for Specific Commitment of WTO’ at Geneva in June 2012 on the issue of inclusion of ‘Corporate Governance, Compliances and Secretarial Advisory Services’ in the business classification as separate head. During the year 2014, he served as an Independent Director on the Board of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).

He was inducted on the Board of Governors of Global Research Foundation for Corporate Governance (GRFCG), an international think tank for research on Global Corporate Governance and served as Secretary General for 3 years term. He is also a member of CII National Committee on Regulatory Affairs.

Social Contributions

In May 2021, Call for Justice, an NGO & a responsible Civil Society Organization (CSO), committed to zealously safeguarding Human Rights has constituted a Fact-Finding Committee chaired by Justice Permod Kohli, Former Chief Justice and appointed him as one of the members to submit a report on post poll violence in West Bengal and the report was submitted to the Home Ministry on June 29, 2021.

He is a member of the Governing Council of ICSI International ADR Centre under the Chairmanship of former Chief Justice of India Mr. P Sathasivam. Recently he has been appointed as Chairman of Governing Body at Bharatiya Nyaya Vikalp Samadhan Kendra, an independent body of Emerging Businesses Chamber of Commerce, under the leadership of Hon’ble Justice Rajesh Tandon (Retd.), Former Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court.

• He is Patron of Karuna Foundation (NGO) promoting health, equity, and justice.
• He is Patron of Rayyan Foundation (NGO) working for promotion of education, health and employability.

Awards & Recognition

On Constitution Day, he was awarded the prestigious Neelkanth Award by Constitution Club of India jointly with Kabeer Ke Log.
